In Wisconsin, in an effort to reforest pieces of Door County, local organizations will be planting over 5,000 trees on lands managed by The Nature Conservancy as a part of Celebrating Earth Week 2016.

Toledo is named ‘Tree City USA’ again

Toledo, Ohio was again named “Tree City USA” for its urban forest management last year — the 36th straight year the city has received the designation. The city received $50,000 from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative for two projects to plant urban tree canopies to increase beauty and “green livability.”

Invasive species threaten Michigan forests

A recently released Department of Natural Resources forest health report has some forestry experts worried about Michigan’s future ecological well-being. Pests such as the invasive hemlock wooly adelgid bug and the spruce budworm threaten several tree and animal species.

MMSD buys floodplain forest for Greenseams program

The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District has acquired 40 acres of a dense floodplain forest in the Town of Farmington, Wis.. Hydric soils in the floodplain serve as a low-lying sponge to absorb and store storm water during heavy rains and reduce downstream flows.

Thames Talbot Land Trust set to purchase 230-acre forest along the Lake Erie shoreline at Hawk Cliff
St. Thomas Times-Journal (9/18)
The Thames Talbot Land Trust is raising money to purchase and restore an environmentally significant 230-acre forest along the Lake Erie shoreline. The area is a habitat and breeding ground for rare, threatened and endangered species of plants and animals.
